During the harvest season, which runs from late August to early September, the Madeira Wine Festival event seeks to recreate old habits of the Madeiran population, associated with the centuries-old precepts of the grapevine culture.
The celebrations took place in Funchal in the late seventies of last century. Now it is an annual event still in progress, which also includes European Folklore Week, street decorations, exhibitions and live artwork, alluding to everything related to wine, and various light shows and traditional music.
The closing of this 'Festa' takes place in the Estreito de Câmara de Lobos, also known as the 'Festa das Vindimas' (the harvest festival). Estreito de Câmara de Lobos parish, 12 km from Funchal, the living vintages are an excellent opportunity to take part in one of the oldest local traditions, whether it is picking grapes or following the grape harvesters.
