World Travel Awards has selected Madeira as Europe’s Leading Island Destination in 2018, in the European Gala Ceremony that took place at the Zappeion Megaron Hall in Athens, Greece.
World Travel Awards was established in 1993 to acknowledge, reward and celebrate excellence across all sectors of the tourism industry. In this 25th edition of the World Travel Awards the Region has taken the best of the usual competing islands: Azores, Balearic Islands, Canary Islands, Cyprus, Crete, Guernsey, Jersey, Malta, Sardinia and Sicily.
World Travel Awards supports, promotes and develops the global travel and tourism industry by identifying and rewarding excellence and inspiring its practitioners to continually raise the standards of their product and service offering. The voting process is online with votes coming from qualified executives working within travel and tourism and the consumer travel buyer. Votes cast by travel professionals count as two votes and all votes are internally audited to ensure the validity of each individual vote.
Other regions in Portugal have also won categories such as “Europe’s Leading Beach Destination”, “Europe’s Leading City Break Destination” and “Europe’s Leading Golf Destination”. Several Portuguese hotels were winners of their categories.
Madeira was chosen for the 5th time as ‘best island destination’, a category that had already won in 2017, 2016, 2014 and 2013, thus confirming our claims: Madeira is legendary destination to visit, invest and live!
