Madeira`s Natural Heritage has been officially recognized as one of the most impressive landscapes in the world.
Due to its prehistoric forest, the Laurel forest, it has received one of the very rare UNESCO Natural World Heritage classifications in 1999. One of the best ways to explore the island is by walking alongside the Levada trail ... the so called Levada Walks
The Levadas are straight and extensive water channels, that lead the water mainly from the north to the south coast of the island. They are also access routes to houses and agriculture spaces.
The majority of the walks are accessible to everyone, existing however, different degrees of difficulty.
